Sunglasses
What’s the big deal with sunglasses anyway? We all know about the danger to our skin from exposure to the sun and ultra–violet (UV) light. However, the same applies to the eyes and excessive exposure can cause permanent damage. Non UV-absorbing lenses can do more harm than not wearing anything at all. When you purchase a pair of sunglasses from us you can be sure all of the following important details have already been taken into consideration.

UV Protection - When deciding on a pair of sunglasses make sure they offer full UV protection. A tint with no UV protection could do more harm than good. Look for BS 2724 a British Standard setting out aspects such as quality, strength and UV protection. Sunglasses marked with BS 2724 should also carry a shade number. Look for a shade number of 3.1 or 4.1 for the best protection from UV light. Purchasing sunglasses that do not conform to this standard is not advised. Wearing a brimmed hat when you're spending time in the sun is another smart idea. Not only do hats protect your eyes, but your face as well (take that premature ageing!)

Comfortable Tint - Sunglasses are available with a variety of different colour lenses. Usually brown, grey or green, however some have bright pink or blue lenses. So long as the sunglasses you choose protect from UV light the colour of the tint is usually just a matter of choice. Try looking through different coloured lenses to see which you prefer. More vivid lens colours are currently popular - shocking pink, sunny yellow and electric blue. However, grey, green and brown are still the most popular. This is because they tend to work with the eyes improving contrast, reducing glare and allowing a maximum amount of useful light to reach your eyes.

Safe Lenses - Check if the lenses are plastic or glass. If they are glass, ensure it is either toughened or laminated for enhanced safety.

Crisp Vision - If you purchase non-prescription sunglasses make sure the lenses are good quality. Look through the lenses and make sure they do not distort your vision, especially towards the edges. Looking through imperfect lenses could lead to eye strain or headaches.

Comfortable and Stylish Frames - Finally always ensure you are happy with the way your sunglasses look and fit. Bear in mind you may be wearing them in hot weather. Do they rest on your cheeks? Will they slip down? We stock a range of sunglasses from standard models up to designer brands like Police and Calvin Klein (most can be fitted with either prescription or non-prescription lenses).

So be cool and safe in the sun - choose you sunglasses with care.
